If you have ever been on Dare Obasanjo's blog prior to all this you are aware that it is a techie blog. He blogs about what he does on the job at microsoft and his primary audience are his co workers and fellow techies world wide... bottomt line is majority of his audience are white males.
1. If he had put "house boy" in the discription they would have not known what he was talking about. "House boy" is a nigerian term,.
2. He called the man a servant. He could have used a better word such as help. He corrected this the next day on his blog and offered a valid explanation. Nobody is above mistake, even the presidents son!!! GET OFF HIS CASE!!!
3. A friend of mine has a picture of her house girl on facebook. The house girl is sitting on a mattress on the floor also!!! She labeled the picture as "MY HOUSE GIRL" know one has critisized her on that!!! If she was the presidents daughter now alot of ignorant people that do not know how to compartmentalize would have been on her case about it!!!

Like I said before Nobody is above mistake, even the presidents son!!! GET OFF HIS CASE!!!

@anonymous,
1.As a "techie", he should have known better than to put up the pics on internet, that the pics were meant for his "white male audience", makes it even more revolting.

2.He did not admit that it was a mistake, instead, he offered different dictionary meanings of the word "servant".

3. First of all, all children of presidents, kings, people in high offices are constantly under scrutinity. I will not bother giving examples or explaining why, I am sure you know why. Secondly, if Dare thinks he has made a mistake, then why is he still leaving comments and arguing?

I AM NOT ON HIS CASE, HE WAS THE ONE THAT PUT THE PICTURES UP, NOT ME. INTERNET IS HOME TO MANY.

The guy was wrong to have called the man a servant even if he actually is a servant. The more refined way to put it would have been to call him a domestic staff. AFterall even 'binmen' are no longer being referred to as 'binmen' but as 'refuse operatives' and cashiers are now 'customer service assistants'.

@Angel: Na babaalaaye you dey find? LOL!! I must admit I wondered which one of the brothers was babaalaye as I was going through the pictures. Maybe we should ask dare hmmmn? LOL!!

Why am I not surprised! These ppl will never change. Just look at the guy sef, with his pot belly. Definately better fed than that poor lion. Na real coming to America. This guy doesnt even respect his own family to put out those pics talk less of a so called "servant". To him they are probably not even human. Shame, a real shame.

the guy looks way bigger/fatter than the lion!!

Erm...I am the only one wondering why the guy has no bed? And was that cockroach in his room?

Haba now, why call him names? Abi if you've never created an ant, please shut the fuck up!!!! It's one thing if you comment on his use of the word servant (which I think is very arrogant) but when you start insulting the way he looks then that's just been ignorant.

@ Anon.

you are a fool.. to excuse the inexcusable..

the way some Nigerians treat those that help them inside thier home is sickening.. and it reflects on our mores as a society.

as Waffy says "he should have known better"

@Idemili, I am leaving the comment that I left on Imnakoya's blog and Laspapi's blog. I AM ASHAMED THAT PEOPLE DO NOT SEE THE PROBLEM.

@ANONYMOUS, you are not getting the point, the issue is not about houseboys or servants, look at the pictures, in the midst of so much wealth, is that normal? If YOU had so much wealth, is that how YOU would treat your fellow human being? I find it extremely saddening that you can not feel any EMPATHY at all with the man in the picture. You talk about "God", the day you stand before your maker, would you dare to make the same comments about housegirls? It is wrong for people to be treated like second class citizens, be it at the mosquito infested quarters of number 15, or be it at the presidential palace. What is wrong is wrong. Why should they "prove" themselves in order to move up in the ranks of the household? Is that the African way? I implore you to look at the situation as a human being, from your post, I see you believe yourself to be a christian, then, I will say as Jesus said: "Love your neighbour as yourself" or even better, "do unto others as you want to be done unto you". As a human being, as a christian, if one has so much wealth, one should be able to share a little, I am not asking for much, just one of those dresses in the picture would have furnished that room.

You mean with all that “coming to America” wealth, the guy has to sleep on the floor? haba! Yes, I am aware of “house boys/girls”, but in all my days, and mind you, I come from Warri, the forgotten land, I have seen them sleep on beds. BEDS! I am sure Dare can afford to get an “ikea” bed, “shipped” down, if one can not be found in Abuja! why is he sleeping on the floor? Thats what I’d like to know, forget linguistic issue, servant vs house boy, I want to know why, with all the wealth shown on those pics, the guy is living like that? Its a bloody shame. A SHAME.

ijeoma obu iheoma said...

Waffy darling.. you cant teach another human being empathy.or to have conscience.. some have it others dont.. obviously Mr or Miss ANon.. has either..

Nyemoni said...

Wow, I wouldn't go so far as to insult the guy, but I will say this... Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh... and in this case, the fingers typeth....

The thing here, you see, is his mindset... he was brought up not to see the people most call helpers as servants...he has to be taught that is not acceptable to call people servants, imagine hearing someone say, "that's my servant Bode, let him know what you want" as opposed to "that's my helper Bode, let him know what you want” and why it is all the more important for him you ask??? Because of his stance as the President’s son... He is at a position where people are watching his every statement and people would go to all lengths to find faults in what he says and how he says it...

I am a young married, working class mother of 1, striving hard to excel in Nigeria, I live in the most likely the toughest state to live in Nigeria and I too because of the demands of my job have had to take on a help full time to take care of my 3 and half yr old at the times when her dad and I are at work and I can brag that my own help lives like a queen compared to his servant...my people (the Kalabaris’) say those who work with kings live like kings but it is a deplorable state that the president's "servants" live in. The President may be ignorant of the facts but he needs to be taught. Empathy is the word... If I were in his position, I would like to think that the people who serve me would live better than that...Enuff said... Person no dey know finish o!

U know something that has always astonished me?
How someone can claim that they are well to do and cannot spare enough money to dress their employed dependents.
MY parents taught in the university (so u know that we were not stinking rich) and when you came to our house, aside for the quality of English, there was no way to visually tell who was the help and who were the kids. Obviously people knew my parents only had two children but they assumed any other person was also family.
It says alot about a person when they only consider their own blood good enough for proper humane treatment. President or no president, servant or no servant, with all the money pilliaged from the country, I am sire a bed frame could have been purchased.

We all have to understand that the president's son is equally human and as such should be given a chance to show off his dad's bday pics like every regular child would. I think people are unnecessary harsh and have to learn to keep our issues with obasanjo outside of his family affair. To the issue of calling someone a servant as many of you have said this is something he pobably did to express himself for want of a better word. The main issue is what he had in mind and by the way you have to consider the audience he put the pictures up for. Bottomline, free the guy, he has every right to glory in the opportunity he has, a lot of you would do worse if you had the chance and some better BUT you can only know when you have had ur turn and until then "Do Not Judge or you........."
